Apprenticeship Structure

Each Apprenticeship has its own framework - a package of qualifications that relate to the Apprenticeship. Your local College will be responsible for making sure the Apprentice gets the training they'll need to achieve the Apprenticeship framework.

A framework consists of 4 elements:

  • An NVQ
  • Key Skills
  • A Technical Certificate
  • Employment Rights and Responsibilities

Frameworks are developed by the Sector Skills Council for each industry and business sector. Each Sector Skills Council is made up of employers, trade unions and professional bodies from specific business areas. This ensures that the qualifications studied are the ones employers really want and the ones that will give the Apprentice the skills they'll need to become an effective member of the workforce.

So, for a Business Administration Foundation Modern Apprentice the framework includes:

  • NVQ 2 in Administration
  • Key Skills in Application of Number Level 1 and Communication Level 2
  • Technical qualification such an OCR Certificate in Business Administration Level 2
  • Employment Rights and Responsibilities

A Bakery Foundation Modern Apprentice is expected to study:

  • NVQ 2 in Bakery Service
  • Key Skills of Application of Number Level 1, Communication Level 2 and IT Level 1
  • Food Hygiene, Basic Health & Safety and Employment Rights & Responsibilities

On successful completion of all the framework qualifications, the Apprentice will receive a Certificate or Diploma showing the scheme achieved.
