Each Apprenticeship scheme has its own level of study. The level number shows the difficulty of the qualification and allows different types of qualifications to be compared against each other. So, a Level 2 qualification in an academic subject like Maths is of the same difficulty as a Level 2 qualification in a hands-on subject like Plumbing.
Level 1 -
Qualifications like NVQ 1, GNVQ Foundation, BTEC Introductory Diploma or Certificate
Level 2 -
Qualifications like NVQ 2, GCSEs or BTEC First Diplomas
Level 3 -
Qualifications like NVQ 3, A Levels, BTEC Nationals or International Baccalaureate
Level 4 -
University level qualifications like Higher National Certificates
Level 5 -
University level qualifications like Higher National Diplomas or Foundation Degrees
